1) My family member is applying for Super Visa, what kind of insurance do they need?

In order to obtain a Parent or Grandparent Super Visa, applicants must have valid insurance. Super Visa is a program that will allow visitors spend time with their families in Canada for up to 2 years, at the same time with multiple entries up to 10 years.

Super Visa applicants must provide proof that they have private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company:

  • Covers healthcare, hospitalization and repatriation;
  • Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000 for at least one year;

2)Why do visitors to Canada need travel insurance?

Visitors might already have local insurance plans in their home country. However, these local insurance plans do not travel with them to Canada. Hospitalization in Canada can be very expensive, charges thousands of dollars per day. Many of the clinics will charge service fees if not covered under Provincial Health Care program. Without an appropriate insurance plan, you are putting your family under risk – you are responsible for these high cost, which can be a severe financial burden.

3)I am a new immigrant, should I get visitor insurance?

Insured individuals may upgrade their plan duration or coverage options after purchase. Upgrades are available prior to or after departure, subject to certain conditions.

Top-Ups

Individuals who have coverage for a portion of their trip under other health insurance plans may purchase TuGo travel insurance as a “top-up”, which covers the individual for the full duration of their trip. Top-ups may only be purchased prior to departure.

Availability

TuGo’s Visitors to Canada plan is available to non-Canadian residents who are not covered by provincial medical plan and are already in Canada or are travelling to Canada and require coverage. Other restrictions may apply – please consult policy booklet.
